The Madness of Hope

When God says,"Build An Igloo!"

Corine McClintock was a nurse in South Africa and helped treat some of those first diagnosed with AIDS.
In 1990, she received a vision from God to open the first AIDS hospital in South Africa. She stepped out in obedience to seek for donations and land. There was one odd thing in the dream she had from God though. The hospice was made up of igloos!
Sparrow Rainbow Village opened on February 14th, 1992 and consisted of igloos of varying sizes. Now, ten years late and with better medications, the children are living longer and longer.

Most AIDS patients develop TB and nearly two million people a year die from this disease. TB is highly contagious as, when a patient coughs, the bacteria spreads through the air infecting others.
These bacteria can be killed by hanging a UVC light from the ceiling and many hospitals through out the world use UVC lights to control TB and keep it from spreading.
After Corine’s igloos were built and filled with patients, an interesting thing was noted. Because of the way the light entered and gathered at the top of each igloo, UCV rays were cast down into the rooms, killing the TB bacteria. There was no need to install lights.

Corine is my modern day Noah. She didn’t understand but she chose to obey God!
What about you? If God called you to build an igloo, would you? Would you have the faith to march on in the face or ridicule or to persevere when it would be easier to build rectangle hospital wards? Are you in tune with God to hear if He asked you to build an igloo?
The bible says that God chose Noah to build the arc because he was ‘righteous, blameless and he walked with God.” Because he walked with God, he heard God’s voice. Then he did everything just as God commanded him. (Genesis 6)
When I visited Sparrow Rainbow Village, I saw the results of hearing God’s voice and boldly obeying. Corine is in her eighties now and will soon be stepping down from her role of Director. Yet, she leaves a legacy to me and to many others.

May we live righteous and blameless lives. May we walk with God so that we hear his voice. And, may we have the boldness and faith to do everything just as God commands
