The Madness of Hope

What The World Offers

While visiting a squatter town school outside of Johannesburg, South Africa, we went inside a small supermarket to in search of something to eat. We wanted fat cook, a local ‘donut’ but they were sold out. All they had left were chips (French fries). So, that was our lunch.
I wondered through the aisles and took photos, remembering the days growing up in Zambia where the stores were empty or only selling limited stock.
This supermarket reminded me of what the world has to offer. To some, it offers a wide variety of items to satisfy our every craving. For many, the world offers so little. Yet, no matter what the world has to offer, it doesn’t meet our needs. We may shop and steal, and buy ourselves into debt. We may even sell our bodies and souls in search of satisfaction, but it cannot be found.
Only God can supply all our needs, according to His riches in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4:19) It is only through the cross that we find grace, forgiveness and peace in our hearts. He is the only one that can fill the void in our lives as we walk on this earth.
We know that this world is just a passage way as we travel towards an eternal home that offers all we could ever desire, in a manner that is imaginable in our limited mindset. In heaven, there will be store houses of all good things. Our heart, soul, and body will be full and overflowing.
In the meantime, it is good to want, to desire and not have satisfaction. Whether the shelves are empty or whether we don’t have the means to obtain our desires doesn’t matter. It is the desire and the need that brings us to the feet of Jesus: the Bread of Life, the Living Water.
So, "Taste and see that the Lord is good," Psalm 34:8. For, "He will satisfy your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's," Psalm 103:5.

Thanking God:
That he has richly blessed the United States with an abundance of many 'things'.
More than that, I thank Him for giving us peace and hope through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son.
